I'm sure you'll have found last night's announcement about a November lockdown as disappointing as I did, so I have sat down this morning and finished a half-drafted post about online resources to inspire some lockdown sewing and give everyone a positive focus for this winter.
These are all sampler block sew-alongs with either photo tutorials on blogs, or video tutorials on YouTube. That's not to say you have to make the whole quilt: you could cherry-pick a few favourite blocks to make some cushions or a table runner, or repeat your favourite block throughout a quilt.
I will add a note about using free-to-the-user online resources. They are, of course, not technically free. Many are prepared by fabric shops hoping for your custom or to drive traffic to websites that can benefit from advertising revenue. But quite a few are prepared in a spirit of generosity, passing knowledge and inspiration from one quilter to another. Do take a moment to say 'thank you' if you enjoy using those resources.
Without further ado, here are the links. Enjoy!!
Stitch Pink
Moda Fabrics have been running the Stitch Pink sew-along on their blog throughout October to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. You can link to all of the posts here and search the blog for past programmes.
Sewcialites
The Fat Quarter Shop - based in Texas - often run sew-alongs on their Jolly Jabber blog with accompanying YouTube tutorials. You can find all the links to their current sew-along, running this autumn, here.
Vintage Block Along
Blogger, author and fabric designer Lori Holt has been sharing quilting tutorials on her blog, Bee in My Bonnet, for the last decade. The Vintage Bock Along ran last autumn and, as always, is beautifully photographed in Lori's gorgeous studio.
Learn to Quilt
If you're looking for a refresher course or want to inspire a new quilter, Jennifer Bosworth of Shabby Fabrics in Idaho has a series of video tutorials to inspire you here. They also offer an Intermediate series here.
Odette
One of my Moda Bakeshop colleagues, Jessica Dayon, ran this block of the week programme on her blog earlier this year. Find all the details here.
The Dashing Dutchman
Finally I have one more suggestion for you by Jo Westfoot of The Crafty Nomad. This is not a free sew-along but a (very reasonable) paid subscription, offering monthly block patterns, video tutorials, live Q & A s and online community support. You can read more about it here.
I hope that quick round up gives you some inspiration for your lockdown sewing. If you have any sampler block programmes or favourite online resources that you'd like to share, please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you!
